Through the last few years, Web 2.0 and Social Media technologies have been commonly associated with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). For many people, however; the SEO benefit remains somewhat unclear from these sites and technologies. Social Media can do a lot more than you may think for you SEO campaigning.

From blogging and social bookmarking sites like Delicious and Digg to Facebook and Twitter, we will explore how link generation and other strategies can enhance your SEO efforts with Web 2.0 technologies.

The Basics

Web 2.0
Wikipedia defines Web 2.0 as: “a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users.” Wikipedia itself is a Web 2.0 site.

Social Media
Social Media is the tool-set of websites and Web 2.0 technologies that allow for the creation of online virtual communities. This is true for both the creation of (On-site), and the participation in (Off-site) within Social Media communities.

Blogging- And the Business of It

Blogs, for a number of reasons, hold a significant amount of search engine value. Blogging remains one of the most trusted and popular Social Media applications.

Quality Content
Always Produces Results
The first thing that you should know is that traditionally, blogs tend to update their content more often than websites. Producing a steady stream of content that is high in quality and is focused around the your most important target keyword phrases has and will continue to provide additional opportunities to rank well for those keyword phrases. Additionally it is very likely that if linked properly, your existing content will also improve in rank for those targeted keywords.

The Blogosphere- Jump In and Get Involved
When it comes to search engine results, blog posts appear in “other” results. Google Blogsearch and Technorati for two examples were specifically designed to search only blog posts. The users who spend time using these mediums are likely to be bloggers themselves and are considered to be more “web-active” users. So it goes without saying that having a blog will enable you to reach a new and completely different audience, affectionately known as the blogosphere.

When you focus on content, and create content that holds value for you users it is likely that bloggers who finds your post, and likes it, will potentially link to your post from their own blog or online forums resulting in an increase in link popularity for your blog, thus effectively demonstrating a SEO benefit.

Page Rank Update and Some Thoughts

posted by in January 22nd, 2011

I have been on the move from 26th December to 12th January, 2011 on a constant - just processing client orders from time to time. Still I am not fully settled with my ventures - with having prior commitments to go here and there. Due to the nature of my journey - I could not carry any of my essential gadgets required to run my usual online business. I had to rely mostly on cyber joints. I could remember almost 2 thirds of my logins and passwords which runs to almost hundred. In between this time - one of my reseller hosting account got suspended due to non-payment of bills.

This is my saddest story/part of in this recent PR update. I have been having some small and a few big projects going on this hosting account. I was really trying to build a high quality  web resources guide  along with some contextual sites like this education blog and many other such projects. But the downtime in hosting for 4/5 days cost me very dear in terms of gaining page rank for my projects as home pages of some sites got totally de-indexed thus rendering incoming links to these domains useless. What is more painful is that some existing projects with PR3/4 too lost PR or greatly decreased.

I am very much aware that page rank is just one of the more than 200 factors that determine Google search  rankings and content and traffic is what one should always look for. But it helps a great deal when the green pixels.

So, I am going to buy a mini notebook now so that mistakes like these never happen again and I can run my online business uninterruptedly from wherever I go.

Best SEO Tricks

posted by in December 5th, 2010
in Link Building, Online Marketing, SEO

Search engine optimization for your web site in order to get it on the first spots is a complex task. If done successfully, it can bring high profits for a company. Here are a few of the best SEO tricks and guidelines to guide you on the right way in your battle for success.

First of all, you need to write for the people and not for the engine. You will be surprised to see your page rank may be 2, while the page rank of someone else’s blog who never heard of SEO may be 4. It’s very common. One of the main reasons to be excluded from the search engines is the fact that you forget to write for the people and you concentrate in entirely getting the attention of the search engines scripts. This is harmful because indexing algorithms usually eliminate such tricks. Even worse, your web site will look very unprofessional and hard to navigate for visitors. Visitors are after all your possible clients. So try to avoid artifices like using non sense texts with the keyword or hidden texts and pages.

Picking the keywords may be very difficult if you are a beginner. SEO experts know that you must think like an analyst, not like a merchant, when you choose the most relevant keywords for your web site. The best keywords are the ones that balance the popularity, have a small competition and, most important, are relevant for the web site. Alternative words, using blank spaces or different phrases may also result in good keywords. A SEO specialist might give you a hand in picking the most adequate keywords for your business.

A web site that is full of new and relevant information is very attractive, both for the visitors and the search engines. The useful content will not just get your keywords easier in, but it will also convince the visitors to come back and see what else you published.

Even if you have the best possible keywords, the search engines cannot find them if they cannot navigate the web site. In order to ensure a high position in the results, your web site must respect the HTML standards and have no broken links. Some search engines might have difficulties with Flash animations or JavaScript.

Probably one of the most important best SEO tricks, you need to find strong partners. Like in any industry. Google for instance doesn’t determine the position in the results by the keywords and content, but also by other web sites’ “opinion”. Your popularity is a sign of your relevance. An unique web site will never have problems finding back links.

SEO is a very important thing that brings results if it is made efficiently. It is a common fact that whenever someone searches for something on the web, only a few actually get over the first page. And only a few more actually check more than the first three results. So do it in a smart way and you will enjoy the results later.
